Music and things

Music later...first, the things.

My bestie Fab K doesn't work with me any more.  Monday was a really tough day.  Selfishly, I was sad that I didn't have her around the old job any more.  Of course, I felt terrible for her.  I won't go into great detail, but she shouldn't have met the fate that she did.  I think she got screwed.  She's so good at what she does...way better than me.  I guess I just get lucky??  Anyway, I miss her in my office.  For the past 6 months, we've spent just about every weekday (and a lot of weekend-days) together.  It's weird not having her around.  The weirdest thing, though, is that we didn't know each other from a hole in the ground a little over 6 months ago.  Our friendship is definitely something that most people just wouldn't understand.  We've become so close WAY faster than most people could ever imagine.  It's really interesting.  Anyway, pray for her.  I know God has great things in store for her!

On to music!

I check one certain site quite frequently.  The site always posts really good mash-ups.  The mash-ups are typically beats from pop songs with lyrics from rap songs.  It sounds weird, but they're done some unreal stuff.  The site is The Hood Internet.  Check it out.

A new band that I've recently heard is called Cut Copy.  You should all go, immediately, and listen to them.  They make me happy.

Here are some other bands I'm really digging (check them out):
Hot Chip
Ryan Adams
Minus the Bear
She Wants Revenge
My Morning Jacket

There was absolutely nothing funny in this post.  Sorry about that.

Be very awesome today.

The Fam...

Well, I thought it might be time to count the blessings I call my family.  Of course, I count them everyday...  These are some pics from Mom's 56th birthday party.  I have a very amazing family!

My goofy nephew...with his new mohawk

Mom and Dad...very unique pic...Dad doesn't usually smile for pics, but he looks plain goofy in this one!

Party attendees...mostly family, but a few of Mammaw's friends from "the home"

Ummmmm...

Well, I could say that I've been gone or in a coma or make up some lame excuse, but that would be stupid.  I've been an awful blogger.  I think I just ran out of things to talk about.

I've been at my parents' house this weekend.  I really do love coming home to see the fam.  As I get older, I realize that I have the best family in the world.  They definitely have their quirks, but they are amazing.  I'm home this weekend celebrating my mom's 56th birthday.  Happy Birthday, Mom!!!!  I love her so much.  I've definitely not been the best son, but I think I'm getting better!  I truly am blessed!

I'll post pics of the fam soon!

Hope anyone that sees this has an awesome day!  I'll be a better blogger.

Be awesome...

Finally...

usopen2008logo.gif

I've never planned for one thing so much in my entire life!  I'm leaving in about 40 minutes for the airport to fly to San Diego!  I'm finally going to the US Open!  It may sound cheesy, but what a dream come true!  I've been planning this trip, literally, since 2004.  Hopefully I'll be able to get a camera or something inside the tournament so I can snap a few pics and post them.  I've heard that's a big no-no, though.  We'll see.

Have an awesome week!

Writer's block

Well, my attempt at answering the world's questions about us guys didn't seem to take.  I did get a question about golf which I'm happy to try and answer.

Question:  since you like golf-colonial?  lame or still packed with tradition?
Answer:  To be honest, I've only been to the Colonial twice in my lifetime.  The first time, I was probably 13 or 14 years old.  The second time was two years ago.  Both times were great!  I love the fact that the Colonial has been played on the same course since the 40's.  The only course that has had a tournament played longer is The Masters at Augusta.  That in itself just oozes tradition.  The course design, unlike almost every other course in the USA, has been relatively unchanged.  Most courses get longer and longer and longer to keep up with the technology that's allowing golfers to overpower them.  Not the Colonial.  They keep it the same and it's still plenty hard.  One of the hardest holes on the PGA Tour is at the Colonial.  Sure, things will change and the tournament will change, but the game is all about tradition and that tradition will hold true at the Colonial.

How bored are you now?  I'm sure most people reading this are about as interested in golf as I am in knitting.  No hating on those that love to knit, but it's just not what makes me go.

That being said, I wanted to share a few pictures I've taken.  I absolutely love photography, but I don't have the time to get out and take the pics.  Most of my pictures come from trips to the mountains.  Did I mention how much I love Colorado?  It is, in my opinion, the most wonderful place on God's green earth!  I was born there, but only stayed a short time.  I get back as often as I can to fish, hike, ride mountain bikes and, you guessed it, play golf.  I'm going in August to visit my best friend and do at three of the above-mentioned activities.  Enjoy the pics of my favorite place!

#2

Well, I'm amazed that anyone read my first ever blog.  I realize that you all had to be bribed to read it, but I appreciate the comments all the same.  Fabulous K is fantastic.  I realize there's a long way to go to catch up!  I noticed some comments on her page about little old me that have made me believe that I need to do 2 things...

1) Make my blog pretty
2) Impart my manly wisdom on the world

That said, I will let Fab K do some fancy pants design for my man-blog (henceforth referred to as mlog).  Now, to impart my manly wisdom on you, there are a few things I can do...

1) Babble on and on about what makes dudes do dude things
2) Make up various "truths" about guys so we can better be understood
3) Take questions from the masses and give the guy's POV on the sitch (anyone who can tell me the movie where the phrase "POV on the whole sitch" gets something special)

Fab and I decided that option 3 would really be the best way to go about this.  So, what we've decided to do is this...get excited!

You guys can post questions where you'd like a guy's POV.  I will answer them in mlog form.  Fab and I will pick a name and that person will get a famous blog refab from the Fab.

Now, I, by no means, consider myself an expert on all things worldly...or other-worldly for that matter.  You will, no doubt, receive flawed, biased and often ridiculous answers to questions.  But that's the fun part, right?

So, let the questions fly.  I'll try not to embarrass myself too terribly bad.

Be awesome...

Uh Oh

Today was not awesome.  It was one of those days where everything seemed to go wrong.  Work sucked.  I pissed off my best friend.  You know, one of those days.  The idea to blog came to me from a friend who is, apparently, Queen of Blogdom.  Her blog gets more hits than Tina got from Ike.  Amazing, right?  As I get the hang of this, I'm sure I'll get close to half as many hits as she does.  Here's hoping!

Future blogs to include:
Thoughts on music - Radiohead is sick.  (to clarify, sick is good.  very good.)
Thoughts on books
Thoughts on things that annoy me
Thoughts on things that do not annoy me (very short blog)
